I don't believe having auto insurance and proper registration has anything to do with the other part of your question. i believe the officer had previous information, concerning you, that maybe someone had advised him that you were driving while under revocation. driving, while being revoked, is a crime and physical arrest is mandantory. towing your vehicle, while under arrest, is for your vehicles safety and liability of the police. the bottom line here is, you knowingly violated the law and are now complaining........because you did. consequences hurt!!

In Ontario Canada, if you are found committing any criminal offense while operating a motor vehicle, it is immediately towed by a police contractor and stored until the registered owner of that vehicle can provide a release form from the municipal or provincial police service that towed it. Stiffer penalties have been introduced in Ontario concerning motor vehicle insurance. If you are caught in this province without insurance more than once in a time period issued by the courts the first time you were caught, new law states that the police can order what is called a VIP tow. The vehicle (even if it is owned by someone else) is towed and stored for 90 days at a rate of $30.00 per day. Oh yeah, the first offense carries a max penalty of $5000.00

Yes . I live in CT my boyfriend never had a license but had a car that was registered and insured(to me). He got pulled over and they towed the car. This has happened numerous times, sometimes if you get a cool cop he'll let you call a friend or relative to come get it but yes they could tow it if they feel like it.
