Watch French movies so you can learn the appropriate tone in different situations. =) I'm no expert though.
Make a trip to French Canada. However, there have a somewhat different accent as the French people.
I am glad I did not have to learn this language, I was born with it...
see if you can get some language learning tapes from your library, and listen to them, repeating things out loud. repeating and hearing phrases will really help your progress for conversational French.

Play phrases through ear-phones set very low and on repeat whilst you sleep, you will learn at a subliminal level :o)
I've heard that posting the French names of various objects around your house on Post-its is a good way to learn another language quickly.

I carry this around with me everywhere I go and whip it out whenever I don't know a word or forget how to say something. Really good for studying too.
