  • I live in Alabama. Perhaps I could make some suggestions. What sort of place are you looking for? City or country?

  • My parents recently retired in North Carolina, just west of Asheville to be exact. They were attracted by the abundance of cultural places. Nice little towns. The urban atmosphear of Asheville just minutes from their house. The cheap realestate adn the many great hospitals in the area! Worth looking into!
  • Pick a state without state taxes and low property taxes if you want to own a house.
  • To Mobile Alabama; at least you get the Gulf of Mexico to enjoy.
  • try alexander city alabama.....the have Lake Martin....very pretty during the summer....
  • it depends on what you can afford and how you want to live. If it were me i would retire in Gulf Shores.
  • Picayune Missisippi is a "Certified Retirement Community". Please see that web site http://www.visitmississippi.org/retire/picayune.htm.
  • Picayune Mississippi is a small town located near New Orleans and the Gulf Coast, but far enough away to be relatively safe from hurricanes. There are several small communities located around Picayune that retires have recently moved into including Hide-Away-Lake and Henleyfield (www.henleyfield.com). Real estate is plentiful now that the building boom after Hurricane Katrina has slowed. Many families from the Gulf Coast and the New Orleans area moved here after the storm. The Picayune Retirement Coordinator gives personalized tours of the city if you are interested. She can be contacted on the Picayune web site www.visitmississippi.org/retire/picayune.htm
  • Thanks, Catman, for the information. I'll check it out.
  • I got a spot in Lauderdale county, MS if your are interested.
  • I live in mobile al, its wonderful, but for retirement i would check out fairhope. its a wonderful town. its a lil upper class, but beautiful homes, very quite, just what a nice southern town should be. and not very far from the beach. i wouldnt recommend gulf shores or anywhere too close to the beach, in alabama we do have hurricanes and beach property or anywhere too close the insurance is crazy. hope this helped! and good luck!
  • I suggest that if you retire down south you not pollute the voter base trying to make down south like the northern states you are escaping from. This is why NC went for Obama (first NC democrat pick in ages).
  • How about Kentwood, LA?
  • Florence, AL on the river or anywhere in Lauderdale county!
  • Aaa pup now why would you want to leave this cold and snow :) Btw did you get snow last night?
  • Blount Springs in Birmingham is beautiful
