Help answer this question below.
Email Google and agree to pay a monthly fee and try to tell them you want to be the first search item.
See if it's economical of course. Lots of Metatags helps too as well as linking your site to other sites in an attempt to generate higher traffic.
Try putting the name of the website in the metatags.
If you really want to get it on the first page of google, it can be done in 24 hours fairly easier, all the while waiting for natural SEO to take effect.
There are tricks to it, but sites like Digg, Mixx, Propeller, Furl, etc. Can put it there in no time. Depends on the keywords youre using.
Also, write several press releases and add them to squidoo, hubpages and other article directories. They get first page indexes fast too.
I know how its done!
For example, type in "shocking truth antivirus" without quotes and youll see it dominates from first position and takes up most of the page.
I submitted those 2 days ago . . . don't believe me? Look at the date that google indexed them! It's right there -- at the earliest, some of them were last week!!!
email me ryb74ii@yahoo.com if you want more information on how to do this.
A well optimized page with proper HTML tags will show up in search results. Use your primary keywords in title tags, collect some quality Backlinks using that keyword as anchor text from some quality webpages. This will definitely help improve Google rankings.
You need to make sure your website is search engine optimized and take several steps. SEO means using relevant and targeted keywords in the appropriate amounts. Websites must be submitted to many search engines in order to even be considered as part of the rankings. You need to update your site frequently - daily at the start, weekly thereafter - to keep the major search companies looking at your content. Lastly, you need to have many inbound links. All of these count towards your overall score with Google, Yahoo and the rest.
The importance is counted according to the number (and quality) of links in.
Links from sites with a decent google page rank are worth more than ones from anonymous pages. I think google also apply weighting so blogs on Blogspot, for example (where you can link to pretty much anything) arent worth quite as much as a link from a blog hosted by wordpress.
Getting people to use social bookmarking is good too - stumble, digg, redditt etc.
Do some articles for 'how to' sites and leave your URL in your signature if they allow - that builds up your profile as well as adding another good link in.
Just don't spam - don't leave your URL in places like this one (i.e. in a question or answer on AB) where they are unwanted because it costs you credibility.
To be honest, your best bet is to let an SEO Company handle it. One that provides you with guarantees, that way you feel more comfortable moving forward. Paying Google to be a sponsored link is good, but it isn't cost-effective and not a guaranteed way to ensure your success. Email me at mbobb@damg.com, if you have anymore questions.

You're reading If I had a website, how do I get it to show up first on a google search? I am doing a search for the name of the website, but it's not showing up for a page or two of search results.
