  • As I understand it yes you can. For girls the heartbeat is about 140 bpm whereas a boys is around 120 bpm.
  • There has been many studies on whether you can confirm gender by fetal heartrate. Unfortunately there is only one study out of thousands that lends any support to the old wifes tale. If you want to believe the myths a fetal heartrate of 140 or less is considered a boy whereas a fetal heartrate over 140 is a girl. I went to the doctor today at 15 weeks and the baby's heartrate was in the 150's. I asked the doctor so does that mean a GIRL and he hinted that he thought so but didn't want to say for sure because if it is wrong he doesn't want to be held responsible. You get your ultrasound for measurement at around 18 weeks where they will more than likely be able to determine the gender. Hang in there it isn't that far away and time will fly!
