  • It's appropriate to wait until you have a LETTER to put on the jacket. Then you can add badges for addition clubs and sports. Also you should wait because you'd be surprised how much your body will change from freshman to senior year. Most guys have no shoulders as a freshman, but more of their adult form by junior senior year.
  • Letters are usually earned, mostly in athletic achievements. However, this will vary among schools. High school practices are often different than college practices. Anyone can get a letter jacket, but the letter itself must be earned. Of course, one can buy the letters and sew them to sweaters, jackets, etc. Wearing an unauthorized letter, though, could be problematic.
  • I had one as a freshman only because I lettered as a freshmen. If you didn't earn a letter I would hold off.
