    The shoes are silver in the book and are not referred to as Slippers.

    As to what they are truly made of, I don't know if they were silver in color or silver in material or both.

    In contrast, the wicked Witch of the West has a Golden Cap, which has a brief cameo in the MGM musical, when she has it in her hands wringing it and then throws it.
