My divorce decree states that a joint loan is to be paid for by my ex. My ex is late on payments and now this is showing on my credit report. How can I get this off my report?

    You both committed to the debt. The credit report shows that one or both of you have failed in that commitment. They don't really care about the details. If it isn't a big debt, you might just cut your losses & pay it off. The freedom might be worth it. Can't beat 'em, join 'em.

    You can't. The creditors don't care what the divorce papers say. The best thing to do would be to take your name off of the account, but the late payments that have already occurred will remain on your credit report for 7 years. You should put a consumer statement on your credit report explaining that your husband was responsible for the debt and did not pay it.

    You should try going back to court to see if they can force him to pay the debt. I'm sorry to hear that this happened to you. It's more common than you may think.
