When I play Madden for PC the game play is super fast and it's almost impossible to play defense. Is there any way to change this?

I'm playing in franchise mode with the salary cap off, and I have a lot of custom players. When I finish a season, it wont let me go to the next season or draft players - it just freezes. What can I do?
