This answer depends on what branch of Presbyterians you are talking about. The Presbyterian USA (The largest and most liberal group) ordains both men and women as ministers. Both men and women all permitted to be elders (leaders in the congregation). The smaller more conservative Presbyterian branches (Orthodox P, Bible P, Reformed P) have different roles for women, they generally don't allow women to be ordained and some branches also don't allow women to be elders.

What a huge question! I am of the Reformed faith, and am a woman...so I can really only give you that point of view. We do not believe that women should be ordained, become pastors or elders. We believe that our husbands are the head of our household. I am not as extreme in my belief as some...as far as I do not wear a head covering or anything like that...and we don't believe that women need to be completely silent in church...but they should not be instructing men. 1 Cor 11:3-9 Now did you mean just their roles in the church, or also in the home? Men are the heads of their household. They will be held accountable for their family. Women are their helpers, and will be accountable to God for this. God's plan never changed...He created us specifically for men. If He did not think men needed us as their helpmates, He would never have created us in the first place. Genesis 2:18-24 Ephesians 5:22-33 A good description of a woman's role is Proverbs 31:10-31

I'm Presbyterian (PCUSA) and we ordain males and females to all offices of the church. As far as in life, they are completely equal, neither is submissive to the other but rather both are submissive under God (God is not always referred to as Father but also as Mother and Creator, etc...)
