Maybe it's the water. Let him drink med for diarrhea. If it's a tablet, cut it in half. Boil the water.

I'm not a vet but it sounds like your dog has some type of worm, maybe tape worms or heart worms. If not, what type of food are you feeding your dog: milk or table food could be causing the diarrahea as well. If possible, feed the dog dry dog food or canned dog food. Good luck!

Diarrhoea can be a symptom of serious illness, but it can also be short-lived and not dangerous. The first thing to do is to starve him for 24 hours; no solid foods, but as much fresh water as he wants - change the water frequently. After a day without food feed him little and often on bland foods - chicken or fish and rice. You could give him anti-diarrhoea medication, but be very careful to give him a very small amount. If the problem persists despite this regimen you are going to have to take him to a vet. Without wishing to sound judgemental, you really shouldn't have a dog if you can't afford to have him treated by a vet when the need arises.

Dogs get run-of-the-mill diarrhea for the same reason people do--they've eaten something bad. For those occasional bouts, the best treatment is to switch your dog to a bland diet until it clears up. Twice a day serve your dog a cup or so of brown rice, which acts as a binder. You can make it more appealing to your dog by flavoring it with a little chicken or beef broth, or mixing in a spoonful of cottage cheese or a scrambled egg. Most cases of ordinary diarrhea clear up in a day or two. You'll know your dog has gotten over it when he skips one of his regular pooping sessions. If the diarrhea persists, call your vet; it could the sign of a more serious problem. Check this out. http://dogtime.com/treating-diarrhea.html

Could be parvo (sp?) which is common in puppies and could be deadly, you really should take him to the vet better safe than sorry. Dogs are a financial resposibility.

There are many causes of a dog having diarrhea, from the mild, one-time bout to the very serious, such as Parvo. So, while waiting to see what happens is an option, the latest 2c strain of Parvo is killing some dogs in less than 12 hours after the first symptoms appear, which is way too fast for a "wait and see" approach. Other possibilities include corona virus, although at 5 months this would be unlikely, parasites, or a change of diet.
