You're reading My dog is 5 months old and he has diarahea now for the past few days. im not sure what is making him like this. i seriously do not have any money to take him to the vet. but i dont want my puppy to get worse. what could be causing it? and what should i do

Great answer, I agree on all points...including the last. I starve myself when I think I may have a bug, it usually works.

Thanks. I've always been reluctant to rush to the vet at the first sign of trouble because I think they are just too quick to prescribe broad-spectrum antibiotics.

Definitely. We took our cat to the vet a couple of months ago at night...obviously it cost a fortune to see the on call vet. He was sort of coughing, but it wasn't a cough, more like he had something stuck in his throat. He'd gone out fine, probably eaten something and come in like that. Anyway, we went, and she gave him a shot of antibiotics in case it was a cough...anyone could see he really didn't need it. He wasn't remotely ill. That seems to be the general practise.

We always recommend to our customers NOT to give their dogs chicken, turkey or poultry-based products because of the risk of harmful bacteria. For a dog with Parvo, which is what we specialise in, the last thing you want to do is to introduce more bacteria into an already sick digestive system.
