The surgery cannot correct for both near and far sight, as bifocals do.

You can get Lasik surgery if you wear progressive glasses as they can do monovision. One eye to read with and one eye long distance. That is how my contact lenses are and I can see fine. I am also thinking of having the surgery

My eyes have never stopped changing for my entire life. I've needed changes in my prescription every few years for new lenses. So suppose I got surgery now? Some years down the line, I'd be needing glasses again anyway! And since I have progressive lenses just to read, I'd still need glasses to read with. Wearing eyeglasses has saved my eyes at least a few times from things splashed into them, or from things poked into them. Once this year, I was working on my tractor, and hydraulic oil unexpectedly squirted up. A few big drops landing squarely on my glasses. So wearing eyeglasses offers protection for my eyes, even from the sun itself, possibly lessening damage to your eyes from that source too. Without my eyeglasses, I'd be carrying around reading glasses. I'd be carrying a set of protective eyeshields anyway, swapping them on and off as needed. Finally, I know, Lasik is supposed to be safe. BUT, it is surgery. Its just my personal opinion, and what I'll do with my own eyes. Eyeglasses are, for me, the best of the options available to me. And wearing glasses, I'm forced to periodically visit my eye doctor, at which time he can check for any problems with my eyes. This is a good thing. Overall, my eyeglasses do me far more good than any petty damage they inflict on my vanity.
