  • This is a generalization, not a coincidence because American blacks only comprise over 10% of the US population and the most dangerous cities are, in fact, home to mostly white people. Parts of a city which are home to black people and have high crime do not speak for the entire city. Pick the most violent street in a mostly black neighborhood in Detroit or Cleveland and there will still be more white people in the entire city than blacks.
  • I think it is something to do with racial hate rather than "blacks are bad". It would be a better study to see what the normal wage (not average, as LA would have a huge average wage due to Hollywood) is in each of these cities. I think that those with a higher normal wage would be safer than those with a lower one.
  • I think it has more to do with where these people live then their race
  • This is not a coincidence however it has nothing to do with race. It has a lot to do with financial prosperity and culture. American Black culture has a hard time keeping the father at home. 65% of all black children are born out of wed lock, This leads to the mom having to stay home and be on welfare or getting a job leaving the children with no caretaker. Young men will naturally join gangs when they don't have a father at home leading to more crime. Young women will naturally want male affection when they haven't had a father at home leading to even more out of wedlock births. It's a mess, and all along their leaders are blaming the "man" for all their problems.
  • I think it's more about the level of affluence, people in 'deprived' areas are more likely to commit crime (generally) - it is also, sadly, a lot of Black families living in the deprived areas, therefore those people commit crimes. It is not because of their race, but about reletive poverty, which, in this case may be due the remaining racism within the system.
  • there's one obvious answer most of you are overlooking: blacks are far more violent than whites. don't try to blame it on poverty -- what is the economic motivation for rape?
  • i am not from america how ever i suspect that it i to do with poverty rarther than colour since were all human, i believe that poverty leads to crime
  • Correlation doesn't equal causation. Most serial murderers are white, but no one thinks something about their whiteness might have triggered the urge to kill serially.
  • I once went to one of those pizza buffet/fun and games for kids places with my family. It was located in an average middle class income area of town. The people there were a good a good mix of ethnicities and pretty representative of the general population. There were mostly whites, a few black families, a few hispanic families, one asian family, and a family from what i assume was India. I was watching all of these kids as they made their trips to the pizza buffet. They were all so excited. I started to notice things regarding their mannors and hygenic habbits in regards to food handling. Most were patiently standing in line for their turn and handling the food properly. The asian and indian kids were VERY well mannored. the white kids were mostly well mannored, but there were a few that were definately not. The hispanic and black kids were (in disproprtionately larger numbers) cutting in line, wiping their noses just before grabbing their food, talking and yelling loudly, dropping pizza on the floor, ect...ect. They pretty much made a zoo out of the buffet. I remember wondering what was the primary contributing factor to their behavior. It was an interesting thing to observe
  • The bottom line is that if you go to any predominantly black or hispanic neighborhood anywhere in the world, you will find the same thing. You will find graffiti, drugs, gangs, prostution, murder, rape, theft, trash on the streets and people living in fear. Everyone wants to blame the econimic status for the problem, however, cancer is cancer no matter why you got it. I don't care what the cause is personally. If poverty is the main contributing factor, then they need to motivate themselves to reduce their poverty levels. Why do the good, motivated people have to pay the price and figure out the cause. I am tired of all the white guilt. If you want to succeed then get off your rear and work towards a positive goal. If you don't then stay in your crime ridden area and leave mine alone. There was once a time in this country and others when people felt safe and that time was long before all the tolerance and political correctness. Wake up people before safty and security becomes a forgotten thing.
  • Speaking for the UK, cities with high crime rates usually have population suffering great poverty or disadvantage, lack of employment, lack of hope. They are often places with historical problems - for example, poor working class areas where people came during the industrial revolution to do manual work, now faced with huge unemployment because reality of educational provision, social aspiration have not changed to accommodate the new reality. Jobs are often not to be found in these areas, and there is little hope of a decent future. There may also be fractured societies, immigration, or different communities living side by side with little in common and mutual resentments. None of these things have anything to do with race or colour. They are an economic reality, and expression of local history. It is not easy to change things and turn them around in a short time, even a few decades. When you get cities disadvantaged populations flocked to, to live in poverty in high density accommodation, and do manual work that is no longer available, you get social problems, whatever colour those people are. It is not a coincidence. It is just a reflection of the social problems of the past. The forebears of those people, whether white or black, went to live in industrial cities to do hard, poorly paid labour that no one else would do. They lived in appalling housing, which for their grandchildren may have been replaced by the 'projects' or in the UK council estates and tower blocks, but the disadvantage still remains. All the concentration of black people in those results suggests is that their parents, grandparents and great grandparents were poor and disadvantaged, and they have not succeeded in escaping from that disadvantage. It tells you that the city had a past life as an probable industrial hub that attracted millions desperate for any kind of work. Crime is high where there is poverty and lack of aspiration and opportunity to succeed in other ways. If it has any relationship with colour at all, the results only tell us what a poor life black people had in the past, and that they still haven't had the chance to fully escape their history.
