When sitting at a booth in a restaurant with a significant other, does the male usually sit on the outside/ female on inside...or across? I've noticed this pattern when I go out and want to know if it's widespread.

I never understood why couples would sit next to each other at dinner? You can't make eye contact that way..and that means a lot when you're trying to have a good time and get to know someone. I always sit across from my BF.

I think it's more across from each other so they can look at each other.

If it's just my husband and I, we sit across from each other. If we are out with other people, my husband sits on the outside.

We always sit across from each other...it's easier to steal food from each other that way!

Most of the time we sit across from each other or if it is a table, we'll sit at right angles from each other. But often, we sit next to each other so we can be close, with me sitting inside, him on the outside to 'give orders' :-)

Unless we are with another couple we sit across from each other. That way we can see and talk to each other easier. If we are with someone else we usually sit side by side.

1) Nobody is usually sitting widespread 2) We used to sit across from each other, but I read somewhere that it could generate confrontation. I think sitting at right angles would be better.

In a booth, just the two of us, we sit across from each other for conversation. At a square table, I usually sit to the left of her - also for conversation. When we are joined by others, I sit beside her most of the time. I like the inside of a booth for various comfort reasons.

If you're sitting in a booth, the proper etiquette is for the man to sit on the outside so that when a woman leaves the table the man can stand.

I personally think it looks silly to sit next to each other if it is just two. For one, you can't talk to each other without turning your head. It also looks too intimate for public. Just IMHO.

In my case, the male (me, in case you're in doubt) sits wherever the female (that would be my wife) DOESN'T sit. My wife prefers to sit generally facing the door. I choose my place from whatever remaining vantage best suits me.

Across. It makes conversation easier and you can actually look at your partner when you are talking to them.
