I've worked in mental health for 7 years and I've yet to come across anyone with this diagnosis (it's technically called dissociative identity disorder). I've worked with many psychotic patients who thought that they were someone they are not but never a true case of "multiple personalities". Even for all the weird things I have seen that would be a new one for me ;)

I know lots of people with quirks but no one with a multiple personality disorder.

It's now being called Disociative Identity Disorder, actually. It's a more correct term for what it actually is. I have studied quite a bit of abnormal psych, and met many people with fascinating and frightening diagnoses, but I've never met and been convinced that someone truly had DID.

The idea of having multiple personalities has been put into great doubt. The test cases such as the famous "Sibyl" have been discounted. The disorder is being reconsidered.
