So, AB finally got rid of most of the spammers? I've been gone for a few months, How did they do it?

Why do people post derogatory words on AB? Why aren't they always removed when flagged?

Should AB add a feature that allows you to mark your own duplicate as a duplicate?

If you flag contributions on this site, why do you?

You're reading My "Crazy Thought" questions continue to get flagged and rejected as nonsense. I feel that these are legitimate CONVERSATIONAL questions that allow Answerbaggers to use their imagination and humor to answer in any way they want. Do you agree or not?

I could not agree more FB.

Funny I saw a pic of Grace on the TV last night and thought she would come after Audrey :) True why should one person have sway over 30, it is not right. I have meen bitching about it for ages.
by Firebrand on October 6th, 2007
It's absolutely ridiculous. If you flag a question like "What's your favorite cheese?" as a duplicate of "What's your favorite cheese right now?" they get denied. But two completely different questions get merged. Then truly nonsense questions that aren't questions get accepted when perfectly well written, clever questions get flagged. I just don't like it.

Me either. I had over 100 answers switched to one of my old questions. I sat and rated them all because nobody had bothered. Explained on every one what had happened, and then they moved them back to the original question. It is the same with the Answer duplicates, we are told to flag them as Nonsense, then some clever Mod. sends them back. I write nasty notes back every time because I NEVER flag nonsense unless it is a Duplicate so I know I am right.I always put PLEASE FLAG on my own I wish they would do something about it . The Moderating is off.I so not worry about the points but I do hate my percentages getting messed up.

I know. It's frustrating. I don't moderate that much but still. It must be very annoying for you.
by unknown on October 6th, 2007
It seems to me some peoples flags are accepted at once and others are scrutinised. I also think that questions just keep getting reflagged and moved to different categories. One night I cut and pasted the SAME answer into three questions. Apparently NONE of them were duplicates. What can you do? :)
by Firebrand on October 6th, 2007
I don't know. <shakes head> lol

I just do it a I go along now, it is boring. I had never moderated at all until I made Maestro.Lets face it , it is garbage picking. I know people say they do it for the good of the site. That is pure hypocrisy. If you are going to Moderate be honest about your reasons Maybe it helps the site but I put them in the right categories because I am garbage picking.Only Questions and Answers add to the database. To have earned more Mod points than anything else is not exactly anything to boast about.

I start to mod and just get bored as hell in the first two minutes. lol I usually just catch something on the home page now and then
by unknown on October 6th, 2007
It is boring and I just cannot be bothered with it any more although i still find quite a few as i go along and the 'recatorgorize; ones pop up all the time. I think I shall go to bed. People keep on about this level 80 i really cannot be bothered to stay up just to go up a level. I have to go to the gym in the morning after Mass. Have a nice evening:)

What'll we do when they start to merge answers and comment threads?

WOW Capt'n. some people will certainly make some Mod points LOL.Rum all round. but shhhhhhhh, they may just hear you. Be careful what you wish for :)
by Firebrand on October 12th, 2007
LOL, it'd be like the disjointed comment thread from hell!
Not that there haven't been a few of those since it takes me about 5-10 times as long to post!

Jay please read my EDIT on my answer.

Hello Firebrand! Sorry I missed this EDIT and comment!
Unfortunately, I am done with this battle and others on AB. My participation and contributions on this site have dwindled and will more than likely contintue to do so.
It seems to me that until the staff is able to actually read the flags before approving, there is no way to mend the incorrect flaggings. I still have several questions that were unjustly rejected. I also still have several questions flagged as duplicates that aren't duplicates! I have sent feedback so many times, but the staff has only replied to my feedback twice. Once with an email from Rich... the second time was with a day in the PB for sending too many feedback requests.
I apologize for my broken spirits, but it is not just the flaggings that are responsible for that. I really hope you continue to enjoy the site, Firebrand! You definitely fit the definition of a "Superlative Answerbagger"!

I've flagged some pretty outladishly offensive stuff that was rejected and had stuff many liked a lot get tossed after numerous positive responses.
I've also seen old comment threads scrubbed completely after long civil posts of mainly agreeing opinions.
As well as, and this is my favorite gripe; conjoined questions that made answers posted to them make little to no sense due to them being in response to the question that was removed in favor of the new matrix. Not to mention better written questions replaced by really lame ones.
My question on that is who winds up with the point credit?
by Capt. Jack Sparrow GALCIY on February 15th, 2008
I am so sorry that your spirits are hit by this flagging business Jay. I moderate a lot but I have never flagged Nonsense . Who the hell am I to think I know better than other people. I wish they would sort out the moderating. I tried on the Blog to getthem to stop the 5 points it earned me a lot of enemies but I still think they should be stopped.. It has got completely out of hand.
by Firebrand on February 16th, 2008
Capn. I THINK the person that has had the earlier question gets the points ot the points disapear altogether. I know I had stuff moved onto mine I spent hours on it but did not get any extra points. The problem with all the new categories isthat I have seen the same question moved into two and three different categories.People invent categories just to moderate . Rich said the moderating system is going to be changed .I just wonder how long or IF it will happpen.
by Firebrand on February 16th, 2008
Thanks for the heads up FB, I admit some moderation is necessary(yet evil) I just pity those whose only enjoyment here is to judge others here all the time only.
