No... sometimes stereotypes are good though... like Black people can dance really well... but if they can't dance... sucks for them.

There is validity in making generalizations about groups (that is the study of sociology) but not in making assumptions about individuals who are part of a group. This is a big difference that sometimes people get confused. For example, it is appropriate to say (and this is backed by studies)that: -Blue collar families tend to use physical forms of punishment, while white collar families tend to use emotional forms of punishment to discipline their children. -BUT it is not OK to assume that just because someone comes from a blue collar neighborhood, they beat their children

No very few people fit into the pigeonholes that are made for them Most of us have some form of stereotyping applied to us and apply similar to others. All black people are not good at sport, All white people are not racist. All middle class do not look down on everyone else. For every stratum of society there is a stereotype and most of them are complete crap and fueled by hypocrisy and ignorance.

I think stereotypes usually have some basis, but they're mostly (always?) way over generalised and an inaccurate representation of the vast majority of the groups they claim to describe.
