  • I had a part time job there when I was a teenager in between school during the summer time. The pay is horrible, the hours are minimal and the work is hot and sweaty. I think they gave me a 50% discount if I wanted to buy any food there and the soft drinks were free. I say do it because it will teach you about the adult world of work and you may be able to learn a few things at such a young age as yours. It is a good move on your part. Go for it.
  • I am a manager at McDonald's. Where I live, we can't hire people until they are 15 and then they can only work on the registers in the front of the store and in the drive thru window where the food is handed out. Perhaps where you live the laws are different. Customers will treat you very poorly sometimes, but it can be quite enjoyable to make someone smile and have a better day than they would have if they hadn't seen you. The work can be very hard. I have had several other jobs that paid more but were a lot easier. You will be expected to find work to do while you are getting paid, so if there are no customers, you want to be cleaning or stocking things up. There is also a lot of stress at times, but now is a good time to learn how to deal with it and how to "choose how you feel" instead of letting "other people make you feel". If a customer ever gets out of hand, just smile and say, "Let me go get my manager for you."
  • I worked as a similar fast food joint when I was young... "Hardee's" in the midwest... I can describe it as follows: "Hell-in-a-polyester-uniform" Nonetheless, I didn't know better and enjoyed it at the time. There is one good thing you'll learn at a major fast food franchise. The value of extremely complete, clear written processes. How to recognize them, follow them, and write them... Good luck and enjoy your new pocket change!
  • Everyone deserves better than to work at fast-food. IMHO, I hope robots start there by circa 2020. You have to stay at a same place for several hours at a time and it can get sweaty & tedious. Have you considered being a paperboy? Throw newspapers from a bike or motor-scooter, enjoy the wind that blows in your face cooling you down, soak in the different sceneries, and meet new people on your route. That's a more exciting adventure for a kid your age. Or if you're lucky and there are TV stations in your area, you can audition to be on a kids' (or teens') show!
  • I'm hoping to do the same thing, actually. Nobody's answering my question about it though.
  • I would work at a grocery store if you have one nearby... I started working at Publix when I was 14 and liked it for the most part. Thats only in Fla though I think. Try Winn Dixie, or Food Lion, or whatever you have. They should start you around $8/hr.
  • i want to work at maccas aswell except i want to lie about my age and say i was a month ahead of what i am now, casue im 13 and 11 months and i just recently got a job at a cafe acasue they didnt ask me for my bith certificate but maccas does so do you think you can work their at 14? near like roxburgh park and broadmeadows maccas like that side of town, can you work at those mccas at 14?
  • and how much are their pay an hour?
  • I personally think you should enjoy being a kid while you can, all this talk of "the adult world", while it will "make or break" you in the long run just isn't something someone so youthful should worry with. It's your choice of course, I can only tell you that you will have: disagreements with co-workers from time to time, customers may not always be so....pleasant, and of course you will be expected to work regardless of your personal feelings. "Bad day? tough ****, get to work!" Now of course the perks: work experience for future employment, possibly a gain a self-value being an employed person and making your own money, and of course, the money.
  • Don't. I haven't work'd there, but I have a friend who did. And well... you'll do extra hours and they won't pay. You'll have right to a 20 minute break and no more, that with a gross burger (the most pathetic in the whole menu BTW) of about 6 hours of work. And the clients there treat the employees like shit, or even worse. You'd do better enjoying your 14yoness while you still have it, then when you're 16... you can start taking the responsibilities, working in a better place. lol 14yoness
