If I plug my desktop PC's USB mouse and keyboard into my laptop PC, will I be able to use them, and will doing so damage my laptop in time?

    Yes, as the previous person said, you can easily do this. Not only will using an external keyboard and mouse not damage your laptop, it will extend the life of the laptop's keyboard and touchpad (little finger mouse/square), since you won't be putting as much wera and tear on it.

    That can be done. There should be no damage incurred with using a USB mouse or keyboard on a laptop. Many people do this for the same reason you want to.
