Generally, you don't get pregnant while your menstruating, because the lining of your uterus is being shed. It would be hard for an egg to be implanted while all this is going on. You are basically having contractions when you have menstrual cramps. I don't know if its impossible to get pregnant while you are on your period, but I don't think its likely. I'm assuming if you did, you would continue with your menses, as some women report that they continue to have periods while they are pregnant.

I've heard that there's a very small chance of getting pregnant DURING your period, since most people don't ovulate during their period and the flow of blood may keep the egg from implanting. There is still a chance though, and it is not a form of birth control. If you think you got pregnant before your period, and you had a period, again, there is a very small chance of pregnancy. A doctor's visit is the only way to tell for sure, or a pregnancy test.

Yes. It has happened and does happen - granted not often. Its not until the next cycle that one "misses" - then that is not a 100% certainty - there are pregnancies where the woman continues to cycle due to the placement of the egg/fetus most often outside of the womb proper. It normally takes about 14 days before over the counter tests can tell.

I din't get pregnant while on my period, but I still have 2 periods with both of my kids when I was pregnant. That's what threw me off. By the time I realized that I had missed a period, I was already 4 months pregnant with my son, & 3 months pregnant with my daughter.
