  • Wiggy's Antarctic Sleeping bag is rated to -60 F degrees. Be warned . . . they aren't cheap. http://www.wiggys.com/category.cfm?Category=6
  • sleeping bags have different types of ratings. Some manufactures will advertise the 'comfort' temp and some (more likely) will give the 'survival' temp. Be weary, because you don't want to merely 'survive'.
  • personally i d buy a very warm brown one with built in w.c. ha ha
  • Kilimanjaro is generally a 8 day climb (return) from Arusha. Campsite huts are available at Machame, Shira, Barranco, Barafu and Mweka, so it's not like expedition mountaineering. The Marangu route is less challenging still and can be done in 5 days return. The bag you choose will depend on the time of year, but a synthetic bag from North Face would be my suggestion. Have a great trip!
  • something really really warm... as warm as possible. I climbed kilimanjaro last summer and it was so cold I couldn't sleep and I was wearing all my clothes too.
  • Your highest camp is around 15,000 ft for nearly all routes and temperatures are normally around 30F at night. However, weather is unpredictable and you would want to have a four season warm bag, rated 0 to -20F to be safe. Synthetics are cheaper, but heavier and bulkier while down is lighter but very expensive. As long as you get a major brand (TNF, Montbell, Big Agnes, Mountain Hardwear, Marmot, etc.), you will be ok. REI is a good source for bags and info. You also will need a good sleeping mat and base layers.
