Just because a police officer isn't sitting right there doesn't make it okay to break the law. You got caught. Own up and pay your fine.

Videotaping stop sign and red light violators is here to stay. it brings in much-needed revenue to local cities.

    The video evidence is conclusive.

Your vehicle is taped at the stop sign or traffic signals stopping point and your license plate number is also taped.

Not many cases are being dismissed.

You admit not fully stopping at a stop sign, so request the four hours of defensive driving and have the citation dismissed, after completion of the class. it does not go on your driving record and does not effect your auto insurance. the class normally costs about $70, but that cheap compared to future hikes in insurance coverage and two marks on your drivers license.

    Defensive Driving Classes......they work.

    It will be tricky.

Was the camera shot merely of your car and plate, or did it have a clear shot of the driver? If the camera clearly shows your face then you are stuffed. If there is reasonable doubt, you MIGHT be able to fight it but may irritate the judge; risky at best. The only way you can really have a chance here is if either
    a) There is no shot of the driver at all. Be careful to utilize your fifth amendment rights against self-incrimination without crossing the line to outright perjury though.
    b) The driver photographed looks VERY different than you. If you have to spend more than three seconds explaining why the person in the photo that looks kind of like you really is not you then they will think you are just blowing smoke out your ass and throw the book at you.

The video needs to be conclusive, and at the right angle to be legal.I was once stopped by the police for not fully stopping at a stop sign.I went to court and beat the ticket for I could conclusively prove that I stopped, and the police had the wrong angle of view.

Video camera are being used more and more to aid police officers with traffic violators.

The cameras are valid and have been upheld in many courts.

Pay the fine, your violation is taped.

Why does it matter who you were caught by? You still did it. Just because an officer didn't have the serendipitous luck to be right there (in which case you would have probably feigned caution anyway) doesn't mean punishment isn't in order.

Fight the ticket! You have the right to question your accuser. If any officer arrives to attest to the evidence on the tape, immediately object as this information if hearsay. There is still a lot of debate on the legality of video speed/traffic enforcement as the primary evidence rather than supporting a live officer's testimony.
