  • The fifth and final step is dressing and casketing of the remains. Using the clothes provided by the family, the funeral director proceeds to dress the remains. It is common to use a full set of clothing, including underwear, socks or stockings, and sometime even shoes if so desired. http://www.dartefuneralhome.com/Embalming_-16913.html
  • It depends. If there is a viewing before a service, or an open coffin, the relatives would have decided what the deceased would wear trying funeral preparations. Some families want their loved one to appear just as they would before they passed away. If it is a child, there are often toys, video games, whatever the family wants really (within reason) I believe that in Australia persons are dressed as they would in life.
  • Logistically, it would be hard to get legs into underwear after death. After all, sometimes it's hard for living people to step into underwear. Do you think they slit them up the back and wrap them around the abdomen?
  • You know, I have no idea. I just wanted to say, every now and then a question comes up that just raises my eyebrows and I think to myself "What a impossibly unusual and great question. I never would have thought about that." This is one of them. Sorry, just had to say that. You can rate me down now for not answering the question.
  • Since answering this question on the 27 Jan, I had the sad task of assisting preparing my twenty eight year nephew who died of a drug overdose. Since he died of un-nature causes, an autopsy was performed. When time for dressing him, clothes chosen by members of the family where worn. New clothes where brought. He had an adult diaper on, underclothes where not purchased as they would not have been seen. Although it was a very sad occation, it held some interest to the process of caring for the departed.
  • We did. It was pair of smiley face boxer shorts. It was kindda funny to a have a family commity on what underpants to put on him. He would have been so embarassed that his sisters knew what kind of skivvies he had on.
  • i am not dying to find out.
  • Yes they do. Paris Hilton hasn’t died yet.
  • Yes, As Hard as it was when I had to pick out my boyfriends clothes. as I opened his under clothes drawer I seen his favorite boxers. he had just got them a couple weeks before. (they were cute... they said NO NO NO all over them) and I asked the Director to make sure they went on him, and they were put on him.
  • Who knows? Do they even put pants on them? I mean you don't see that half of them right?
  • Yes you do, they dress your loved ones in everything that you provide. if you do not wish to provide clothes they will dress the person in a shroud.
  • Sure they do.
  • I find it disturbing that you even thought of this...lol...but seems like a lot of people know! Not something I have ever wondered! :)
