After World War Two and the Korean War, and made famous by TV programs like MASH a portroyal of an American Field Hospital in Korea, receiving victims. The use of the helicopter speeded up seriously injured soldiers to the hospital to be fixed of their immediate injuries but not able move their extremeties. Coupled with medical advances, antibiotics, rehab centers, specialized care for spinal injuries, since the early 50's things have really taken hold for advancement of life for spinally compromised people
