No. I wish it was but no. However, anyone who cheats is still a rotten bastard or an f'ing bitch. And that's the way it should always be.
-
Both monogamy and polygamy are "natural". Human behaviour is a conflict between the "play it safe" strategy of of reliable partner and the "lots of chances" strategy of fooling around. Choices will depend upon individual personality, upbringing, and culture.

I think it is, providing that the love that brought two people together is really love and not lust. The people that "fall head over heals" in love and expect that to last forever were never in love (my understanding of the word) to begin with..love is feeling the same about someone even when he/she has a horrible cold, is in a very bad mood, and can make your life miserable because he/she is miserable temporarily. So if you think monogamy is not a natural state, you've never been in love..again, as I understand the word! :)

It occurs in nature, so yes it is natural. The thing is that very few mammals practise it, about 92% of birds are but we are not birds. The best thing to do is to look at our closest relatives: Chimpanzee. "Equally, chimp society is not monogamous" (http://www.sensualism.com/beauty/chimpanzees.html), so safe to say that biologically it isn't OUR natural mating habit.
-
Doing what you feel is right for you is natural. Staying in a relationship simply because society expects you to is not.
-
I suspect our species is MOSTLY monogamous, but not completely, and most people just can't get over being cheated on. It's a dilemma I don't see any solution for. Personally I have no desire to be faithful to anyone but also have no desire to keep secrets about it either ("Screw you bitch! I'm not going to be faithful to you!") I'm very antisecrets. I only see a complex solution for people to get to truly know themselves and their prospective lovers before developing the type of relationship appropiate for them.
-
It's natural for me, but I'm not necessarily representative of the entire species.
-
I THINK YES. THATS WHY IT'S CALLED ANIMAL INSTINCT.
-
I believe that since humans are a part of nature, such as are all animals, that by nature we are not monogamist. Most other species are the same in most cases.Marriage is a social structure that was implemented thousands of years ago,and has little to do with the true nature of man.
-
no. It is a conscious arrangement.
-
So many animals are monogamous that I don't see why it should be a surprise or impossible fro man to be, especially with his higher capacity to appreciate the fine benefits of integrity and faithfulness. Man isn't just an animal that can't control or think out his desires and the effects it can have on others besides himself.
-
Yes I believe it is.
-
Judging by the way most of the population handles relationships, I'd say that it's both.
-
First case, I think it is a socially adaptable trait... There were periods in history where polygamy was the norm... Second case, I think we're genetically designed to have more than one mate. Look at the number of sperm one male produces versus the number of eggs one female produces. You'd think an intrisically monogomous adaptation would have 1:1 male-to-female ratio. The animal kingdom reflects this as well... Male animals mate with many females over their lives. I think monogamy is something that was imposed at some point because it tends to counter our intrinsic reproductive systems. Of course, it may have been to save the sanity of many men... Hehe... I can barely handle ONE wife!! =)
-
For humans it's a learned behavior. It is intrinsic in penguins
-
I find the concept of expecting someone to ony have sex with me for the rest of their lives to be hugely arrogant, unrealistic, demanding and unlikely to be achieved
-
way to many men only think of themselves when it comes to females they haven't a clue. It could work both ways
-
I once heard that monagamous animals (such as wolves and HUMANS) run as much as a 40 percent chance of extinction. Hell no, it's not natural.
-
There are some animals other than humans that form pair bonds, and since it happens in nature, that makes it natural. At least a little bit, anyway.
-
NO. Like chastity it's "the most unnatural sexual perversion of them all". Passing on your genes, to as many receptive females as possible, drives men and evolution.
-
not to mammals...humans included. Something natural can't be regulated. the fact that monogamy is so much regulated tells you that it's not natural but man-made......
-
It depends on the species. Humans are the only ones to throw religion and morality into the mix. That only muddies the waters as different religions and cultures have different views on the issue. If we are talking about humans, then that is still an unknown and any answer you get will be biased by the upbringing of the person giving that answer,
