  • Very unhealthy. Your body needs fuel to keep going. You're not going to burn anything that isn't there, you'll just feel sick.
  • I don't think it would be bad. Just watch out for low blood sugar symptoms...
  • i think its not unhealthy but nt preferable as welll
  • I always feel really weak when I do that.
  • Your body needs carbohydrates in order to work. Your muscles are powered by a modification of these carbohydrates called glycogen. This is stored withing muscles, but the supply is exhausted pretty quickly, so the body converts glucose into more glycogen. Although most people are able to keep their blood glucose levels quite controlled, exercise will cause a reduction in the glucose, since it gets used up. Even after switching to fat burning (which takes a while, during which carbs are you main energy source), you still need a carbohydrate source in order to burn fats (due to the chemical pathways involved in fat burning). Once the amount of glucose drops too far in the body, it begins to make more glucose from energy stores such as fats and proteins. However, this process itself also uses a lot of energy (part of the reason why you get hot when exercising). Working on an empty stomach means: A) Your blood glucose is likely to drop faster than it would otherwise, resulting in a reduction in muscle function and so you won't get good results. B) Your body will convert protein into energy for your muscles. And, since protein required for muscles production and maintenence, as you reduce the amount of protein by exercising, after the workout your muscles won't be able to repair themselves well, and so you can get injured more easily. C) You are probably partially dehydrated. And even if you replace th fluid lost by drinking water during your workout, you still lose salts in your sweat, and replacing with pure water basically dilutes your body, meaning you may experience muscle cramps. If you are exercising strenuously for a really long time, you can develop water intoxication, whereby basically your body is lacking the salts (electrolytes) so much that organs won't work correctly. But of course, life is never simple. Working out on a full stomach means, as well as being more prone to stitches, blood is diverted to the gut more, leaving less for the muscles, so that you can't exercise effectively. The best bet is to exercise about one hour-90 mins after a light meal, and then have a larger meal and drink afterwwarsd to replace that which your body requires.
  • You should always eat something before you work out. Starving is not good for the body.
