do not worry about your fico score.i really dont understand why people get so upset over their fico.the best thing to do is have 1 credit card.keep it paid off.i buy on my credit card ,at the end of the month i pay it off w/ my debit card and carry a zero balance. the credit card company makes zero intrest.i on the other hand make intrest on my balance in my checking acct. it takes discipline ,yes, and i know sometimes people run out of money before they run out of month.just dont live beyond your means..

Debit cards/checking accounts aren't forms of credit, so this won't affect your FICO score. You may not even have a FICO score if you haven't had credit in the past, though you may have a credit report if someone (such as a bank or employer) has run a credit check on you. You can check your credit reports for free each year by going to www.annualcreditreport.com (the government's website) or by calling 1-877-322-8228. You can order all 3 (one for each credit bureau) at once, or you can space the reports out over the year. You are right to be concerned about your FICO score because it can affect your insurance rates, interest rate paid on your mortgage or other loans, what you pay as a deposit on utilities, housing opportunities, etc. I would suggest you get a credit card and use it wisely if you don't have one already. You could start with your bank and request a card with no annual fee. Just make sure that you pay it off IN FULL every month. Try to keep your utilization (balance compared to credit limit) under 10%. If you start out with a low credit limit, your bank will probably give you a credit limit increase after about 6 months to a year. I've never paid a penny of interest or fees to my credit card company, and I now have a 5-figure credit limit.
