The polar shift is something that happens every few hundred thousand (maybe million) years or so, basically the poles swap, so what we now know as north will become south and vice versa. This will have an effect on anything that relies on the earths magnetic field for use, however most of these items are so small that it would not matter at all, a compass for example, now it points north, but after a shift it would point to what we now call south.

Polar shift is when the axis of the Earth shifts from 23.5 degreestowards the Sun at summer. This caused by centrifugal force. Have you ever seen a gyroscope spinning on a point? It's axis goes around and around. That's what happens to ALL rotating bodies, some more than others. Our planet's axis is shifting 23.5 degrees on one side to 23.5 degrees on the other. This will take about 26,000 years, Polaris won't be our Northern star until about AD 27,800 (for those working it out, Polaris isn't really our Northern star right now it's just the closest to being our Northern star). The only thing will will change is the months that the seasons will occur in. At the moment the Winter solstice is the 22nd of December. In about AD 8,300 Winter soltice will be either 20th March or 23rd September (Vernal equinox or Autumnal equinox), I say either because I do not know the direction of Earth's orbit round the Sun nor the direction of Earth's axis' rotation (can someone please clarify this point?). In about AD 14,800 the Winter solstice will be where the Summer solstice is 21st June. So it won't affect us geolocigally but it will affect us socially.

The Mayans,Egyptians,and many other ancient societies had rightly predicted polar shifts.The next major one will be in 2012,where the magnetic north and south poles will shift.This shift happens every 26,000 years and due in about 4 years.The earths crust will move in such a way that the poles will be moved to the equators.Global warming is just the first signs of the polar shift,and the actual shift could take years or abruptly in just weeks or days.Massive changes in sea levels,famine ,and dramatic changes will take place with at least half of all living things will die.It will not be the end of the earth but will have changed beyond our comprehension.

Based on the Hapgood-Einstein "global crust displacement"theory,a large mass imballance taking place at the current polar regions, may as well trigger a sudden earth crust shift by a margin of an unknown - yet- number of degrees..This "sudden move" might be a few hours or a period of decades,but the effects will nevertheless be the same in any case.A good reason for this imballance could be a close passing-by of a small stellar object ,a gravitational change of some kind in general,or..just the current greenhouse effect!More precicesly, the Pollar ice cap meltdown:Current studies show that northern (Arctic)polar ice melting implies a real danger in this case,as it's estimated that the northern icecap masses are already ten(10!) times less than the Southern(Antarctic) ones & continously shrinking , while the southern ice is rather holding more and maybe increasing by an estimation of 40-45 billion tons annually due to heavier snowstorms,according to Prof.Curt davis,Collumbia University, 2005 study, & also because of the different microclimatic behavior patterns of the region in general-abscence of industrial activity,huge land masses etc: So,Antarctic ice accumulation is thus keeping sea levels from rising faster thanks to global greenhouse effect,and rather slows down the whole process. Nevertheless, there is larger melting ratio taking place in the Arctic regions today up to 2.8-3% of the existing mass & this means more clean water in the oceans & a slight sea level currently rising up to 2.7 mm annually..This, in turn produces a constant change in gravitational effects - planetary scale with all this new water around plus the pressure release of previous ice-covered artctic land masses that were submerged under miles thick ice glaciers ,now slowly rising following this meltdown..so what we have here happening is really a situation of "constantly accumulating imballance" between the land & water masses in polar & equatorial regions and its slowly happening for about 50 years:Keeping in mind that the Earth as a planet is not quite "spherical" but "slightly flattened" in the equator , due to Earth's rotation of about 1,000 miles/hour(!) ,we therefore estime that the current relative zero sea level altidude is nearly +14 miles (about 20kms) away from the planetary gravitational center - in comparison to the poles..We do realize that in case of a planetary crust shift ,inertial forces will cause mass ocean altidude & fugicentral imballance enough to produce : a) terrible earthquakes of unpreceeded magnitude, b)intense & massive volcano eruptions in every existing teutonic fault area, followed by many new cells & even supervolcano activation such as the Yellowstone case that will emmit gigatons of dust and toxic gas & causing the nuclear winter phenomenon to last for decades with polar temperatures even in equatorial regions & c) giant floods that are etsimated to cause mountain-high tidal waves in such an extent that complete drainage will take place over some sea floors while other regions will be suddenly submerged miles below sea level... Armagedon days in other words.Impossible to happen? One might bring in mind the fate of alledged Atlantis as a result of such a crust displacement event.Thus changing the global maps overnight.Causing the devastation of 6.5 billion people & allmost all life on Earth plus resetting the planetary rotational behavior.Setting humanity to a point of extinction for about the fifth time,as it's estimated that this global shift has occurred four times throughout human existence,supposedly wiping out all previous advanced civillizations (Aka:Atlantis & Mu)each time it took place..This is the exact scenario of the new R.Emmerich movie "2012" set to broadcast on theaters for Nov.2009, by the way.A warning effort of some kind?:This director has brought the global flood subject ..twice.In 2005 with the movie "The day after",and in 2006,with the "10,000BC" film.Maybe he might be part of a subjective effort to inform the public sideways - as not to cause panic when it happens. who knows.But one thing is for sure:Whoever survives this global catastrophe, will be amongst the ufortunates of this new world..
