  • It annoys me, some kids are just easily bored & do things to amuse themselves that tend to annoy teachers. They are usually pretty creative & don't need to be sedated. I think some teachers like to say that because a child will make them do more work then they want to so it would be easier to control a sleepy child on medications.
  • I think if a person wants to reccommend a medication - no worries - if they are a doctor! Otherwise I would not have an issue with a teacher explaining to a parent that there is a child with an issue and perhaps a check-up at the doctor could be in order. I think that medicating children for behavioural issues should be a last resort once other methods have been tried, so in my mind, a teacher who demands that their student be medicated should not do that. I don't think the teacher is a bad person for requesting it, as they probably find that when one kid is disruptive all the kids in the class lose. The schools need to give the teachers more support, so they don't feel a need to demand their students be medicated.
  • I think medication for children is a COP-OUT for anyone. I think the teachers are over crowded with children and need more help. I would never put my child on medication unless it will save his life. I believe that some kids have ADHD or ADD but there are many other ways to handle it, than medication. Medication should always be the last resort. Schools need to make the class room smaller for learning and one on one. if you put 30 kids in one room with ONE teacher kids are going to act out and not pay attention. Does not mean they have ADD or ADHD. Just my opinion
  • OMG! Is this for real I have never heard of anything like this, the teachers have no right to threaten children, There should be some low to stop this. I am a teacher and I never done any thing like this.
  • It is COMPLETELY unethical. The only people who should be prescribing medications are physicians and psychiatrists. Anyone else who is neither licensed nor educated in their use is falling WAY outside of ethical boundaries and should be punished for making such a recommendation, ESPECIALLY to children, teens, and young adults. Also, Parents shouldn't be allowed to put their children on medications either. Again, this should be up to a PROPERLY TRAINED PHYSICIAN OR PSYCHIATRIST. They are the only ones who are aware of the proper use of ANY kinds of medication.
  • no they don't have any right what so ever to do this ...they should stick to teaching because most of them can't even do that let alone be pretend doctors , trust me they back off when you tell them to say it to your lawyer
  • I all depends on the situation. The teacher does get to spend alot longer with the child than most other adults and as such has a greater grasp of that child's behavior. However they have no right to force that medicine onto your child, if they try that then contact the head of the school and he should do something about it. Also, listen to the teacher, 9/10 times he/she is trying to help! If they say the child may need medication then take him to a doctor for an expert opinion.
