  • It only harms the oven when arcing occurs. This is when the microwaves are converted into an electrical impulse that runs through the air between the transmitter and the metal. The electrical feedback can harm the transmitter.   • Only if arcing were to happen. YOu can actually use foil in a microwave if you know how to do it safely. But watch out for things like the metal twist ties on some items, like bread or chickens. Those can light on fire! Yes, I found out the hard way:-)
