It could seem obvious, and as an experienced runner, I'm sure you do, but stretching the legs and your whole body out before running is very important, making sure you are drinking plenty of water several hours before running and of course remembering to lift those knees high and proud should help your efficiency, which should help prevent sluggish legs, or at least the effects of them. Hope this helps I meant well by it.
