I'd be more worried about the Town deciding that your dog has to be put down since it killed. :-(
-
What are you gonna do if the next time it's a protective kid walking a little dog? I wouldn't want to take that chance.
-
A dog can be trained to be less aggresive, but it take real work and conditioning. This is especially true with pit bulls, which are naturally more aggresive than other breeds.
-
unless your neighbors dog came onto your property be prepared to have your dog put to sleep
-
You are in big trouble. Prepare for this story to be front page news tomorrow. Prepare for animal control to come and confiscate your PB.
-
Yes, your dog can be trained to be less aggressive. Unfortunately, that may not be enough to solve your problem. The liability involved in keeping a pet that has proven it will not only attack, but kill, is tremendous. While you may be able to train the dog to be "less" aggressive, it is unlikely you can train it to completely give up it's violent ways - especially a dog of this breed. It is an unfortunate situation, but you have to take in to consideration the safety of your neighbors, their kids, their pets, and their right not to live in fear of your dog. It will be difficult, if not impossible for you to get homeowners or renters insurance if you keep this dog. The conditions you would have to keep the dog under would make it miserable. You can basically never trust it to be alone or unattended again. The MOST IMPORTANT thing is, why didn't you train the dog BEFORE this happened? Are you going to go out and get another dog and fail to be an active and responsible dog owner, again? I feel for you, I love animals and I have my own dog that I loving refer to as "my little liability", but you have to face the grim reality of your situation.
-
i wouldnt keep the dog. it may be a person next time.
-
its just being a gard dog
-
I personally would think about my options in this situation. Now this unfortunate incident has happened, you have seen the capabilities of your beloved pet. Ask yourself a few questions... After seeing this, do you ever feel you can trust your dog not to repeat this behavior? Do you now have concerns about your dog being around your children? I don't think I'd want or need the liability.
-
Last I heard pit bulls are just too good at killing. I see no good reason for keeping one of those killing machines for a pet
-
how old is your dog? it should be socialized (spend supervised time with) smaller dogs from a young age. all big dogs see littler dogs as possible prey, but how they respond to their instincts is the responsibility of their owner. good luck to you.
-
I sure hope you get along well with your neighbors. I think your only hope is if you work out something with them, (and no one else, especially the news, or animal control), finds out about it. Most states require your dog to be put down after such a killing. I'm hoping yours doesn't. I'm a dog owner myself, and I would die if my dog harmed anyone or if I had to lose her.
-
i really hope you dont have to have your dog put to sleep!I have a pitbull(Blaze) and I love her very much,it is important that you train your dog very well. How old is she? if she is young enough there may be a little hope, find her a good dog trainer that is familiar with this breed. There are many closeminded people in the world that judge the whole breed by the actions of a few (calling all pitbulls killing machines is the same as saying a whole race of people are angry or lazy because a few of them are it is a form of prejudice and frankly grosses me out!!!!)Please be responsible and do what is best, for all pitbull owners!!! I hope it all works out. Shenise

You can satisfy with instincts by letting him get the door when the Bable thumpers come a knockin'

I would check into the laws in your state..in alot of states a pit bulls kills and a pit bull is taken from the owners an euthanized. If you neighbor chooses, they can sue you(your homeowners insurance) for damages for their dog and punitive damages for the attack. Some dogs can be retrained..but it isnt a guarantee and it is not cheap. This is a powerful breed that has been bred for generations to do basically what your dog did to the neighbors. Also keep in mind that for every 1 family that swears their pit bull is loving and would never harm their children..there are 3 families whose pit bulls have ended up attacking not only a child..but their own child. These dogs have to be trained well and trained young..if you don't do that, you are asking for trouble in the future. IF this attack was reported, and your state doesnt have a one strike law, you are now the owner of a vicious dog on record and you are liable to a higher degree if this should happen again. :)

my 7 yr old son, myself and our dog were outside this morning feeding the stock, we live on 4 acres and only have 2 neighbors and yes one is a pitbull - it came charging through the woods and attacked my dog on my own property - while trying to get the dog off mine the dog turned on me I WAS TERRIFIED THAT IT WOULD TRY AND GET MY SON!!!!!! i fought the dog off and was screaming the whole time I WAS ON MY OWN PROPERTY MINDING MY OWN BUSINESS!!!!! Don't tell me that pb's are not mean I have the cuts and bruises on me to prove differently - and quess what they (the neighbor) was only sited for having a vicious dog out roaming!!!!! The next time I will shoot and kill it-- no questions asked. I also have a 4 year old daughter. My children should have the right to play outside and in OUR woods without fear- I will make sure that happens. I don't care if it was a pb or another breed, I would do the same thing. I am an animal lover and have often taken pets that people have not wanted and found them good homes I am not a hater of any pet/breed - but I am a parent and will do everything I am capable to do to protect my children.
-
put that dog DOWN
-
Your dog can be trained BUT you must be a strong alpha leader and if you arent it might be best to send it to a pit bull rescue or some kind of sanctuary that can train your dog. There is hope for your dog if you know how to train him.
-
If you show her you are the leader and set rules for her,you will avoid this problems.. If your dog is now gonna be put to sleep, you the only one to blame, as your lack of knowledge and irresponsibility made someone elses dog pay by his dead and yours possibly too...
-
Had I been your neighbor, your dog would be dead.
