What is an "Iron Maiden"?

    An iron maiden is a medieval torture device. It was a box big enough to admit a man, with folding doors and its interior studded with sharp iron spikes. When the doors were closed these spikes were forced into the body of the victim, who was left there to die in agony.

    An iron maiden was a execution or torture device...

    it was similar to a coffin or casket but withing the box was spikes sharpened to pierce naked flesh...

    With these spikes could be measure from as long as 12 inches but more often the spikes were 6inches long...
