  • It is one of the holiest sites for Christians because of the death and resurrection of Jesus. The third most important site for Muslims because of the the Dome of the Rock Mosque. For Jews - King Solomon is known to have built the Holy Temple on Mount Moriah in Jerusalem.
  • Believe it or not, I am going to say that Alatea's answer is mostly correct. However, I am going to disagree with her on one point. The reason that Jerusalem is holy to Msulims is not so much because it is the location of the Dome of the Rock Mosque. It is the rock inside of the mosque that makes it holy. Muslims believe that it was from that rock the Mohamid ascended into heaven. The mosque was built there because it was a holy site. It was a holy sight before the mosque was built.
  • When I went there I wondered that myself. The only answer I can come with is they all discovered dogma at the same time and used it to keep peoples brain trapped. And it worked. Note: All the famous important places of those three religions in Jerusalem are about 15 minutes walk from each other. The wailing wall, dome on the rock and where J.C. is buried there.
  • You also have to understand that all three of those are abrahamic traditions. out of judaism came christianity, and out of christianity came islam. that they connect somewhere geographically when travelling was dangerous and therefore rare is not surprizing at all.

Since both Christianity and Islam recognize the Old Testament, it stands to reason that the "Holy Land" would also be recognized. Each religion associates a different reason for their reverence of the area.
