I'm with you. Sex is natural fun and good for you. If people would spend more time being promiscuis there would be more happy, satisfied people and less stress.
I think the point is it's not shameful but from a young age we are conditioned (as a form of control by our parents, church and the state) to believe that promiscuity will lead to disease, pregnancy and lack of love...the term slut is just a trigger word to activate the shame we have been taught and keep us in line. Once we take the word slut and embrace it as a compliment then the word will lose it's power to control behaviour.
You shouldn't confuse having more than one concurrent relationship - what some call polyamorousness, some non-monogamy - with 'promiscuity'/'sleeping around.' For me the first can have qualities of tenderness, affection and genuine interest in the other person(s), whereas promiscuity - as in a succession of one-night stands - connotes shallowness, objectification and often using the other person for selfish gratification. That's why I for one applaud non-monogamy (when it works) and look down on promiscuity.
because men made all the rules. . . the double standard stems from the days when women were considered property, like cattle and sheep. Ever wonder why a woman is "given" in marriage by her father? Back in the day women could not own property, vote and in some instances read or write. the further back in history you go, the worse it gets.
unfortuantely, women are now adopting the worst traits of men . . .
If you don't get attached to the person you're sleeping with, then there's something wrong with the way you see and act in sex.
I propose that it's looked down upon because people use it in a way that systematically undermines another person. People don't realise they're being immoral until they are in a relationship with someone they love and they truly realise what it is to respect a sexual relationship.

You're reading Why is promiscuity looked down upon? I've never understood why "slut" is considered to be such a huge insult or why people feel ashamed for sleeping around. Really, can someone give me a good reason why it’s so shameful?

Exactly! As long as you're safe about it.
