Bob Wills all the way, Too bad not many people are into western swing anymore. Thank God we still have a few that are. George Strait & Asleep at the wheel are a couple.

Country is like rap in regards to this question - modernity has abscessed the spirit of the genre with plastic. The soul that was there is most assuredly not what it once was.

I would prefer Patsy Kline. I love the simple romantic ballads in country music.

I think that they both have their place.

My collection spans from Hank Williams Sr. to The Dixie Chicks. Of course the Man in Black.

Right now I am listening to Boxcar Willie and I just finished listening to Toby Keith.

Now Patsy Cline... *sighs*. But then Gretchen Wilson gets a reaction from me as well. :D

I've always enjoyed Patsy Cline, but I don't consider her a country singer. I've always felt she was a torch singer who happened to sing country.

Why stop with Bob Wills and Patsy Cline? Even the MINOR artists from back then were better. Country was country when George Jones, Johnny Cash, Hank Snow, Hank Williams, Cowboy Copas, Loretta Lynn, Kitty Wells, Dave Dudley, Don Gibson, Waylon Jennings. . .well, I could go on all day. The only modern guy who comes close is Clint Black.

..you can go to any bar, resturant, truck stop, etc in Texas and look on the jukebox...you'll ALWAYS find Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys somewhere...
    Waylon Jennings sang it best....

    Shadow is Gone

My Country Music library includes songs from the 30's to the 90's. I've tried listening to present-day Country and haven't had much luck.

Like most genres of music nowadays, the success of an artist or a song seems to rely too heavily on whether or not the "video" was any good.

The evolution of music is inevitable, probably because the market targets the younger set and it's not cool for them to listen to "old people's music". But they will be old people, soon enough, and then they'll be asking the same question you are ......

"Why doesn't anybody play my music anymore?"

This "canned" music of today, is NOWHERE NEAR as uplifting or as meaningful as yesterday's!!!

I think George Strait and Alan Jackson said it best in the Song "Murder On Music Row" (and for that someone should pay)

I find that every genre and every decade has some greats and some disasters. There are plenty of recent songs that I love, plenty I can't stand. Same for the music of yester-year.

I don't limit myself to liking specific genres, there is brilliant music of every kind! That being said, I absolutely prefer the old time country going back even further than Bob Wills or Patsy Cline. The Carter Family and those artists of the same era made some of my favorite music of all time! Most of what is coming out of Nashville is "pop" music with a country twang these days.

Well I'm not a fan of country music necessarily. That being said, my father, who was a trumpet player, cut a couple of songs with Bob Wills.

I listened to Bob Wills growing up also. So I'm partial to it over it's modern counterpart.

I prefer the traditional style of country music. I like the horns, steel guitars and fiddles included in country songs. Today's country music is watered down and many of today's singers have removed those three key instruments from their acts.
