Yes, yes it does. Especially when it's a consistent thing! Great question! +5
-
It does when they claim to have a college degree.
-
Yes it does annoy me. What tops that is when you repeat what they said and turn to you saying "That doesn't make sense."
-
I do find it annoying, and sometimes it's hard to tell people that they've used a word incorrectly. I just read a funny article about words that people commonly misuse called 9 Word That Don't Mean What You Think. Check it out, you would probably appreciate it.
-
yes, especially common phrases like "play it by ear" which they say (and write) as "play it by year". How do you play something by year?
-
Yes it does. But if you're talking about people on AB, you MUST remember that AB is Worldwide and there's no age limit. For many people English is NOT their first language, and for many of THEM, they are still learning it. There are also young (I've answered a question for a 12yo) people here, and they may not have the same grasph of English that the older people do. You have to give allowances for that reason. The text-message questions bother me too, but I understand that some people could be ABing on cell phone, so I let THAT pass, too. And yes... If someone uses the wrong word, or spells it wrong, I WILL make a FRIENDLY note in my answer about the correct use or spelling. Don't LET it irritate you. Realize the above, and go under the assumption they are young, foreign, or using their cell to ask/answer/comment.

Yeah, it aggravates me. I'll usually respond by quoting Inigo Montoya's line from "The Princess Bride"...: "You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."
-
no big deal, as long as I understand it.
-
i guess they don't have firefox
-
i think its sad if they cant speak or write correctly. its like being handicap.but if they type something on purpose cuz its faster then i think its ok.then they r just lazy

English is my second of six languages. I do try to be proper in the use of this language, but like many others who have English as a secondary language I too make a few minor errors. So, when I see others making A little mistake, I am not even fazed. Major mistakes, and numerous mistakes in the same phrase or sentence, however, usually indicate to me that the person is either badly educated and truly does not understand grammar, or they are just being an a$$ making the errors deliberately. __________ Good Grammar is Important 1.. Verbs HAS to agree with their subjects. 2.. Prepositions are not words to end sentences with. 3.. And don't start a sentence with a conjunction. 4.. It is wrong to ever split an infinitive. 5.. Avoid clichés like the plague. (They're old hat.) 6.. Also, always avoid annoying alliteration. 7.. Be more or less specific. 8.. Parenthetical remarks (however relevant) are (usually) unnecessary. 9.. Also too, never, ever use repetitive redundancies. 10.. No sentence fragments. 11.. Contractions aren't necessary and shouldn't be used. 12.. Foreign words and phrases are not apropos. 13.. Do not be redundant; do not use more words than necessary; it's highly superfluous. 14.. One should NEVER generalize. 15.. Comparisons are as bad as clichés. 16.. Don't use no double negatives. 17.. Eschew ampersands & abbreviations, etc. 18.. One-word sentences? Eliminate. 19.. Analogies in writing are like feathers on a snake. 20.. Exaggeration is a billion times worse than understatement. 21.. Eliminate commas, that are, not necessary. Parenthetical words however should be enclosed in commas. 22.. Never use a big word when a diminutive one would suffice. 23.. Kill all exclamation points!!! 24.. Use words correctly, irregardless of how others use them. 25.. Understatement is always the absolute best way to put forth earth-shaking ideas. 26.. Use the apostrophe in it's proper place and omit it when its not needed. 27.. Eliminate quotations. As Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “I hate quotations. Tell me what you know.” 28.. If you've heard it once, you've heard it a million times: Resist hyperbole. Not one writer in a million can use it correctly. 29.. Who needs rhetorical questions? 30.. Go around the barn at high noon to avoid colloquialisms. 31.. Even if a mixed metaphor sings, it should be derailed. 32.. Proofread carefully to see if you any words out.

They are either lazy or uneducated, or both.

People who want to communicate well and clearly should avoid spelling and grammar errors. It seems that this is not a priority for many of the users on AB. However, there are exemplary users as well.
