Hens can lay up to one egg per day (5 to 7 per week), depending on their health, diet, and age. A battery hen has a productive life of about 70 weeks. If we assume 6 eggs per week, one hen can produce about 420 eggs over her productive life. The hens are then sent for slaughter and realize further income for the farmer as meat.

Think about it. A normal healthy hen can lay an egg a day, and live about 15-20 years. 365 times 15= 5,475. A unhealthy hen would lay much less eggs. Don't expect your hen to lay every single day, it varies.
