Some state laws require the license plate to be transferred with the sold vehicle. if this is the case, the new owner is responsible for re-registering the automobile into his name. if this has not occured, notify your state's department of motor vehicles. this should be completed for two reasons: l. it lessens your liability, if the new owner is involved in an auto crash. 2. it definetely lessens your liability, if the new owner turns out to be a criminal and your sold vehicle is used as a get-away car. i would move on this asap.

I agree with anonymous. You need to take your bill of sale to the DMV and they will transfer the vehicle out of your name and out of your liability from the date on the bill of sale. I got screwed and threw away my bill of sale after selling to a "friend" and got racked for $360 in fines!
