  • The 10 codes for states and cities are different. I have found that the codes for two cities in the same state varied in many ways. I am an officer for the city of Euclid, Ohio and when researching this topic, I found on bearcat1.com that the Mansfield, Ohio 10 codes had a couple of similarities but that was it.
  • Yes, they are different. Some towns/cities use their state police codes. Others have their own codes. The states are different but may have certain common areas to communicate across state lines in the case of a chase. I live in Ct. and the state police here have to talk to their barracs and have the info relayed to ajoining states except as mentioned before.(in an active chase). Different states have different radio systems and may not have common frequencies, The same applies to towns within the same state. I've listened to scanners for thirty years, concentate on the state and town 10 codes where you live.
  • Here is a list for you to look at, take it from there→ http://www.radiolabs.com/police-codes.html
  • Yes it is up to the discrestion of the dept. Some dept., like Miami-Dade, use Q signals for some things... Some are using plain english... An interesitng side to this is that the Dept of Homeland Security and FEMA require any dept that to be certified for the Incident Command System they are to only use plain english during a declared emergency to reduce confusion during multiple ageny responses.
