One of the characteristics of alcohol abuse is that, even when sober and even for weeks or months after the last drink, they are still far crabbier than they will be when it finally works its way out of their mind and system. If it never works its way out of their minds, we call that being "dry drunk." Alcohol abuse causes major personality degeneration that persists between drunks.

Most alcohols are "downers" & people's bodies all handle it differently. And not all alcoholics are mean. We just notice the mean ones more. I had 2 uncles that were both alcoholics. One was mean & 1 was very happy. Both couldn't leave alcohol alone. Both died because of it. I know rum makes me mean, so I never drink it. But I can drink vodka or beer.

That is a pretty broad statement, not all are mean. SOme people get silly when they are drunk, some get all loving and emotional, and others get sad. Not everyone who is a drunk is a mean drunk.

They are hurting. The misery that drives people to try and escape their percieved rotten life is hell for them.....and they crack. That's not an excuse, but one of the explanations.

The nice alcoholics are cheerful and quiet. You ignore them completely. The mean alcoholics are loud and obnoxious. You give all your attention to them. When the squeaky wheel gets all the oil, after a while it seems like all the wheels squeak.

I am married to one. I can return a phone call, and say: You called? His response: Yes, I called 2 HOURS AGO My response: Well, did you need something? (usually the case) His: I CALL YOU EVERY DAY TO TELL YOU I PICKED UP THE KIDS, AND WE MAKE IT HOME OKAY (in a hatefull voice) Did they eat? WELL YOU KNOW I AM GOING TO FEED THEM - -DO YOU THINK I AM GOING TO LET THEM STARVE? Well, I am glad your okay YEA - OKAY.
