  • I think, no matter the grade, making the content as fun as you can for the students is the best route. Sure, it can't always be fun, but if you can some how make it funny or interesting it's much better than them sitting listening to a lecture. Plus, you're still speaking of grade school, they're young and the content is easier to make fun.
  • I think that somewhere along the way more teachers have decided that if it isn't entertaining then it isn't going to work. I may be old-fashioned about it, but school is suppose to be work, not play, and as the kids move up in grade should be shown more and more that hard work is required to achieve, not just to be entertained by the latest computer graphics or whatever. Recess and lunch are play time for the kids, maybe PE and some art, but after that it should be down to business in my mind.
  • Why not try to forge a synthesis between the two? I was home schooled, and used to sing songs about Multiplication and things like that. Learning doesn't have to be miserable and boring. It should come as easily as possible! After all, who says that the "fun" stuff is less educational than the "content" stuff?
