I was a stylist and Yes you can definately see the little bugs crawling around and the eggs attached to the hair. You need to quietly (without embarassment)tell them and No, you DO NOT cut their hair in risk of spreading it to you other clients.
Yes, unlike dry scalp, head lice attach themselves to the hair shaft 1" from the head, check hot spots, behind the ears, nape, explaine what the client should do to rid the lice, professionaly. Once, after the client left I bought new clothes, and went back to work.

You're reading Have you ever worked as a professional barber/stylist that cuts hair? If someone came in and had head lice, would you be able to tell? Would you do/say anything or just cut their hair and keep your mouth shut?

How often did that happen? Was it mostly children, or adults also?
by .avallach on September 20th, 2007
Not very often, both children and adults. Not many men though, I guess because of the shorter hair and it seemed never with the older person. probley because lots of children get it and give to it their parents lol, Im always checking my kids head since they are in school, your children can give you a lot of stuff you wouldnt normally catch, I have 3 and never was ill until I had them, Poison ivey, chicken pox, strep throat you name it lol
