& the food was FAB !!
If a combination of up-to-date equipment, high maintenance standards, absolute cleanliness, care and comfort of passengers, and safety record is the criteria, then Singapore Airlines probably wins it hands down.
Singapore, no question.
bottom line is that Southwest airlines has the best prices and for years now have had the best overall customer service and also the best on time flights. They keep a simple model and don't screw it up. I don't fly with anyone else anymore, especially since they fly all over the US now.
I had a very pleasant experience with Continental.
Jetblue is my personal favorite when it comes to US service. They are a bit limited, but they are up and coming and very reliable. I like NWA as well, but this company can have its quirks, perks, and letdowns all in the same day.
For international, I really like Lufthansa, British Airways, and Air France. The best international carrier is by far Singapore Airlines, who recently made the news by making the first A380 commercial flight from Singapore to Sydney.
The best is Swissair. They use silver and real plates when serving meals. Also one has a choice on the plane and fancier drinks, some that are complimentary.
Korean
the one that offers the lowest fares.
Singapore Airlines consistantly rates among the best airlines.
British Airways has a good reputation with people who are sitting in first and business class, but horrible when you are in Economy. Carry-on limits and luggage problems are severe at the moment as well.
wow youve done your homework.....what about 1 from experience....I would say for me Turkish airlines
You have to try them all out for yourself and decide which one has the best prices and Service depending on where you live.
SAS.
British Airways has been the ONLY airline that lost my baggage in over thirty years of flying.
Aer Lingus is over-priced and the planes were so often dirty I got fed up of it, and believe me I am not a neatnik.
American Airways quit caring about the customer - beyond their wallet anyway - a long time ago.
El Al is just too scary
Lufthansa missed the Wall
Thai Air will never be SAS....
I could go on, but after a certain level their is little to differentiate.
Virgin Atlantic is my favorite
Cathay Pacific has been named World's Best Airline, winning the 2009 Airline of the Year title in the latest World Airline Awards

NOT United.
*So far* I haven't had any troubles with:
Southwest,
Continental,
Song, or
JetBlue
Troublesome ones that stand out most from memory are:
United & Delta
