  • Cranberry juice is a very popular in helping heal urinary tract infections. If possible, try to get unsweetened cranberry juice, as excess sugar may make the infection worse. Even better, try to find a cranberry/blueberry combination drink, as blueberries contain some of the same components as cranberries.
  • I have used apple cider vinegar in the past for myself drinking a cup twice a day, for 7 days. I must warn you that the taste is quite unbearable. I later learned about cranberry tablets. I suggest that you take one cranberry tablet daily. You will find that this will decrease your chances greatly for a re-occurance. However in my six years of managing a Residential Care Facility for the eldery, I never sent a resident to the hospital due to a UTI. I take cranberry myself daily and had no UTI problems.
  • There is no home remedy for a UTI, only ways to prevent them. To cure a UTI, you must see your physician who will prescribe an antibiotic. To prevent UTIs, as stated by other answers, drink lots of cranberry juice and/or take cranberry tablets. The tablets are sold most drugstores and are called Azo. There are 2 kinds: prevention tablets and tablets that ease the discomfort of an already existing UTI. My OB/GYN also mentioned that taking frequent hot baths with lots of bath salts, bubble bath, etc., can also make one more susceptible to UTIs. It is also recommended that you empty your bladder before and after intercourse.
  • Try cranberry tablets. In the United States, Walmart sells them for about $3-5.
  • Honestly, I've always found that a 1L bottle of Coke worked wonders for UTIs. Not only does it keep your bladder full (which seems to make it less painful) but for some reason it really dulls the infection itself. Of course, I usually combine it with Pyridium (prescription UT analgesic), but even without, the Coke seems to work remarkably well. Say what you will about it not working, but a little bottle of cranberry juice and a litre of Coke got rid of the last one in 6 hours. I'm just speaking from experience.
  • Unsweetened cranberry juice and TONS of water. Cranberries have powerful antioxidants that help cleanse your system and the water will flush all the toxins from your body. Had a UTI a few months ago and drank only cranberry juice and water for a few days and my UTI was gone. I did use Uristat on the first day just to help ease the pain. My pharmacist told me homeopathic remedies was a load of crap, that if I had an infection I'd need to see a Dr and go on antibiotics- Not true. Also taking a cranberry tablet daily is very beneficial in preventing UTI's.
  • I found one. I went to a natural food store store by my job and I found a miracle drug! The name of the company that distributes this is Gaia Herbs. The name of the product is Liquid Phyto-Caps Urinary Support. It costs $21.99 a bottle of 60 pills but well worth the money. If you take it exactly how it is recommended, the infection goes away. i started to feel better later the first night.
  • Reluctant to go back on antibiotics I saught alternative remedies. After trying a combination of antibacterial medical honey (health shop), cranberry juice AND tablets, olive leaf oil (natural antibacterial), ural (urine neutralizer) and drinking litres and litres of water - four days later I'm still suffering from a painful UTI. I don't mean to slam any of these methods - just suggesting to those with semi-serious/serious UTI's antibiotics is the best treatmeant I've found yet!
  • There is a product called D-Mannose (capsules) that you can buy at Health Food stores. Trust me on this one, it works way better than cranberry juice and capsules. Also works faster than most antibiotics without the side effects and without related yeast infections. If you are prone to UTI's, you really should keep a bottle of this stuff around. Cant say enough about this product!
  • I used two tablespoons (not heaping, normal or smallish side of them) of baking soda in just enough water to dissolve it, twice a day (or once a day for two days) kicked them out for me completely. There are some dangers to baking soda, or so I have heard, but up until my current one it worked for me for many years. Right now, I am trying to find another way. I have read that upping your vitamin C intake to 5000 MG a day plus lots of water and a multi-vitamin with copper will get rid of it. I won't be taking a whole 5000 MG a day but I am going to take quite a bit to see how it works out for me and report back.
  • no. you have to have antibiotics to get rid of a uti. but you can take precautionaries. drink less soda. shower after sex. cranberry juice. azo cranberry tablets if you're prone to them often. you need some sort of antibiotic to get rid of them though. and if you don't, your infection can spread to your kidneys, which is worse.
  • The basis of all home treatments are to provide antiseptic qualities and alkalinize the urine to provide a less friendly environment for the bacteria that cause infection. Drinking at least 16 ounces a day of cranberry or blueberry juice (the no-sugar variety) can have a preventative and therapeutic effect. These juices have antibiotic properties that interfere with the ability of bacteria to adhere to the bladder and urethra. Home treatments are far more successful at prevention, so please don't delay in seeing a doctor. Untreated infection can reach your kidneys and cause permanent damage. p.s. I don't recommend home tablets as most are in pill form that include a sugar base, which just makes infection worse.
  • Increasing my vitamin C intake to almost 5000 mg a day kicked it out for me. The only side effect is, well, frequency of number two, to put it delicately. Ascorbic Acid is non-toxic and seems to be the safest, fastest way to get rid of one. Make sure you have a nice multi-vitamin with copper in it because vitamin C might decrease your ability to absorb it. Also, drink LOTS of water!
  • nope.. go to a doctor, it is confidential, get the amtibiodics for it.. otherwise youre wasting your time while it only gets worse
  • I get UTI's alot and I have found that UNSWEETENED cranberry juice is good (DO NOT use Cranberry Cocktail - it has too much sugar which can aggrevate the problem). I also use a product called UTI-Clear by Native Remedies (found online). During treatment, you must stay well-hydrated with water or tea or cranberry juice. Avoid any drinks with sugar in them. Usually what I do is start my at-home treatments, but still make a doctors appt. If it has gone away by the time the appointment comes up (usually a week or ten days with my Dr.), then I cancel. If it hasn't, then I go and get anti-biotics.
  • Cranberry juice and plain yogurt.
  • in asia a coconut juice is the most common best home remedy for U.T.I
  • cranberry juice is clearly one of the better ones, but dandelion leaf is another. by all means try these, but if there is no difference and you are feeling very uncomfortable and sore, then go quickly to a doctor.
  • Having dozens and dozens of it's over the years there are a few things you can do to help. Drink a lot of cold water, lots! Stay in a cool environment. Keep the house cool, almost cold. Take panadol to keep your temperature down if you have one. Best advice though, go see the doctor!
  • woke with slight pain when urinating and a very light pinkish blood in urine - drank A LOT of Mountain Sun - pure, not from concentrate, unsweeted cranberry juice mixed with water and cured it within about a day and 1/2. You don't need antibiotics if you catch it in the beginning - keep the cranberry juice handy in the refrigerator, drink it for maintenance too once or twice a day.
  • I would like to corroborate the importance of prompt antibiotic treatment once you notice symptoms like fever or cloudy urine; I was hospitalized with pyelonephritis (kdney infection) for three days in 2000, after a UTI went bad quickly. If your condition worsens *at all* despite drinking extra water/cranberry juice, go immediately to your doctor; I nearly lost my left kidney, and I went as soon as I realized I had a fever.
  • you could try using a tincture of corn silk...available at health food stores...if you catch the uti early enough, this method is very effective...it acts as a diuretic flushing the nasty bacteria out of your system. you take 30-40 drops 3 to 4 times a day and drink lots of liquids.
  • The only thing that I have found that works is this: Buy a bag of asparagus Boil it until it is VERY overcooked then drink the water you boiled it in. This cleans out your system and any bacteria living there. :) It is yucky but worth the results, I suffer from recurrent uti's and this is the only thing that causes many comfort. Try it iced too... not so bad that way.
  • I can't belive nobody has mentioned bicarbonate of soda! It's one of the best and cheapest ways. Just a teaspoon in a glass of water 2-3 times a day. Tastes awful but totaly worth it. My doctor recomeded it and he's a bit of an expert in womens stuff. Also remember when getting yogurt, get naturel yogurt not strawberry frubes!!
