  • They joined for a paycheck and good dental.
  • In HIgh school there were five of us from my class set to go in the Army. By the time it all rolled around, I ws the only one who actually did, when I talked to those guys later they all said the same thing, they were afraid of actually going. I suppose that is more common than talked about. When we were landing in Panama during the Noriega deal and I was sitting their looking at my live ammunition, that was the only time I ever felt scared and wondered for a moment if I had made the right choice. Now I look back and think how much of a wuss I was at that moment and should have never doubted myself.
  • Before going in the military, I suggest watching HBOs Alive day........Documentary....about service members who are victims of strategically placed bombs. The Iraqis wait until a Humvee approaches and then blows it up. They show the actual explosions and whats left of our troops. Missing limbs, paraplegics, burn victims. It's all heartwrenching. I would show this to my daughter if she was thinking of going into the military.
  • Fear had nothing to do with it. I didn't want to run the risk of the brig for disobeying an order. I don't have it in me to blindly obey. If I thought the order was stupid I wouldn't follow it period. I'd be court marshaled quick fast and in a hurry. As a civilian I just have to look for another job. That said, Thanks for your sacrifices.
