It's taken months to get the almost 5,000 pts. needed to move from level 47 to 48. But from 48 to 49, I only need 900. Is there any rhyme or reason to this?

No , it doesn't make much sense but it was a new points system they devised to stop people climbing the levels too quickly . How they decided the points on each level I don't know.

It probably has something to do with the points rescaling thing that went down in May. It was made so that you need more points to advance in level in the earlier levels, but less in the later levels. So, anyone who advanced as far as you did was given an excess of points all at the same time to make up for the points that they should have gotten. Yeah, it's weird. Anyway, it's over now, and you're back on track. I had the same problem getting to level fifty. I had to get something like seven thousand points, but I cleared that up in July.

A while ago AB made everybody need a zillion points to level up, no matter what level they were at. They said it was going to level the playing field or something, and that after you level up, it would be easier to continue to do so.. I'm sure it's still in the blog somewhere..
