It's a self-perpetuating industry that feeds on itself. To prosper it relies on prurience, curiosity, judgmentalism (is that a real word?) and hypocracy. Sometimes is uses the sheer nasty spitefulness that human society exhibits. And it makes very large profits, which is why we get more and more of it.

Curiosity is not only the mother of inventions but also of the things others are doing, i.e celebrities.If you are published daily in the newspaper everybody will be interested in you.
Where is a good place to find information on media ownership? What are your thoughts on shrinking media sources? (writing a paper on this)=)
