  • yes i think this is very true... even myself. today as i was taking the trash out at work i thought "i dont get paid enough for this" which is probably something everybody thinks at one time or another... but i personally have always been grateful to have a job... i have something to be proud of at the end of the day. if i could take it though i would have everything for nothing... and i think youd have to be crazy not to. i saw something the other day... it was girls handbag... the brand was something juicy or something like that... but it said on it "trust fund generation"... how horribly offensive is it to my generation that we have been labeled this? we havent been labeled as movers and shakers or those that will take over from the baby boomers and make our own futures, but we have been labeled the generation that has had life handed to them. and whats sad is: i know its true.
  • A strong work ethic seems to be rare these days, but it does still exist.
  • It's very true. Look at WAL MART. Cheap goods targeted for those making lower wages made by people in countries making substantially lower wages. Handouts given by poor people to the lesser poor. This is done so this corporation can make billions. What an American concept.
  • I think our younger generation has poor work ethics overall, and want everything handed to them. It is part of the liberals invading the school systems now for so long. The idea that just trying is good enough, nobody gets rejected when they try out for a team, and everything is reduced to the lowest common denominator. It is no preparation for the real world when 100 people will compete for one job, and 99 will be rejected. These kids are not equipped to handle any adversity, and it will be scary to see what is coming next.
  • Most people work very hard and have a good work ethic. Some people walk around feeling like they are being robbed by needy folks, but in fact, getting any kind of assistance is very difficult and closely monitored. But you are fortunate, and not everyone has your initiative. And some folks are limited by things beyond their control, like handicapped people, etc.
  • I find it very disturbing. My dad worked until he was diagnosed with cancer and became too sick to do so. My mother stayed home with us for a few years, but she went back to work when I was 12 (she is now retired). There are people who fall on hard times due to illness, or plant closures or lay offs and legitimately need some help from the government (unemployment, welfare) until they get back on their feet. And then there are those who purposely take advantage of the system and abuse it with no intention of working. I see immigrants come to this country and work hard at getting jobs, learning the language and becoming citizens, and then there are my next door neighbors. It doesn't appear anyone works. They got their government assisstance. and they totally disrespect their neighbors, the law and this country and drive Mercedes, while I have a vehicle over 9 years old and hope it holds out until I can scrape up enough money to buy a new one because I have too many other bills. There really needs to be more restrictions and limits when it comes to "handouts." People shouldn't be allowed to simply "live" off of the government when they do nothing to earn it.
  • No it does not apply any longer. Read the book Atlas Shrugged written by Ayn Rand in 1957. Although a fictional book almost everything has come true. This country rewards the non-producers and punishes the producers. "The men of the mind." The democratic party in their attempt to buy votes is the biggest perpetrator of this poor work ethic. People like the Kennedy's, Clintons, Gore's et al; who have done nothing are the masterminds. Follow them and you are following them down the road of destruction.
  • I don't know about wanting it for nothing, but they sure want it fast and easy. The younger generations seem to think that they somehow deserve to start out with everything their parents already have. They want a nice place to stay that doesn't need much changing now. They don't want to start with a small place and work their way up. They want the perfect car, now. They want the great job with the big income, now. It's like they can't imagine having to work their way up to anything. One nephew of mine wanted to find a place for him and his new bride, maybe buy a place. But everything they can afford would require fixing up or changing. It didn't have the number bedrooms they had to have. They had to have a garage for his work. It had to be away from town because he likes the countryside. It had to have some acreage. ARGH! I talked about when we found our first property and how we didn't want to live in a mobile home but it was what we could afford and we fixed it up and changed it through the years. We loved it because we made it ours. He just saw too much work. So whata did he do with his bride? Moved in with mom and dad and took over the lower level of the house. So many kids are like this. No patience and when they do get just what they want? They don't appreciate it. It's so sad. I wonder how they will raise their children:-(
