The height of skyscrapers is limited by the earths gravity and our inability to create building materials to over come it. As the height of a building increases, so does the mass of the building and the load on the lower most construction materials. In theory a building can grow to such a height as to crush the base material under its own mass.

That depends on the environment as well. For example,
land in Japan is highly prone to earth quakes. They
could build only 10 stories building when I visited
that country in 1983. There is only a modest
improvement to that situation there at present.

It may be amusing to know that Japanese built 2 or
3 story buildings with card boards and other light
weight materials prior to 1940. If the building falls
due to an earth quake, people can quickly get out of
that garbage without much damege to humans.

The Christmas season is filled with many emotions, and chief among them is the sense of magic. We want and need sweetness and charm and excitement and mystery. We want -- we need -- to feel like kids again. Collecting antique cardboard houses made in pre-War Japan.

I saw this answer for another question. One of the limiting factors for the height of a skyscrapper is elevator space. As the height of the building increases, you need more and more space for elevators. You end up having very little floor space for offices. There are tricks like double decking the elevators but it comes down to people don't want to wait to go up and down.

the size of their base. A mega tall building needs to be a pyramid with a wide base, or it would be dangerously unstable in wind, and the other factor is strength of materials given the increased weight.
